Gordon Shooters Push Scots Past Lions

Gordon College’s guards David Dempsey and Greg Walker combined for 41 points and 25 rebounds, as Gordon picked up their first conference win of the season 75-60 over visiting Eastern Nazarene. Gordon shot nearly 67 percent in the second half on the back of Walker’s 6-10 second half for 13 points and Dempsey’s 11points on a perfect 5-5 shooting.
The game started at a frantic back and forth pace resulting in an early ENC 6-4 lead. Gordon tied it up on a fast break dunk from Dempsey. From there, Gordon used good shooting from Park Thomas and Garrett Harden to take a 20-13 lead. The visiting Lions answered back as they put together an 11-3 run, highlighted by a powerful two-handed dunk by freshman John Flakes Jr.
With just a one point lead of 33-32 at halftime, Gordon held the Lions to just seven points in the first 10 minutes of the second half, as they opened up a 54-39 lead at the midway point and were able to hold on the rest of the way. Dempsey finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds, along with four assists, two blocks, and two steals. Walker had 19 points and 15 rebounds. Sophomore Caleb Perkins came off the bench with nine points and four rebounds in just 14 minutes.
Eastern Nazarene was led by DeAngelo Alston who scored a season high 24 points to lead all players. Alston also grabbed 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Flakes finished with 15 points and 6 rebounds while Max Barbosa chipped in 8 points.
This Wednesday, the Lions will travel to the University of New England where they will aim to get back into their winning ways as their TCCC schedule continues. Wednesday’s game is set for 8pm
