The Eastern Nazarene College men’s basketball team took a two point lead after trailing by 8 mid-way through the first half but the sharpshooters of Wentworth and carried the visiting Leopards to a 80-59 Tuesday night. The Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup was a tough- fought battle through most of the first half but Wentworth shot 70 percent from the field in the second half and pulled away to the finish.
Wentworth was led on the offensive end by three players in double- digits. Freshman Derek Mayo scored 17 points, senior Sam Herrick registered 14 and junior Matt Harte had 12 in the 21 point road win. Herrick also pulled down 10 rebounds to lead all players.
Keenan Burke-Pitts chipped in 9 points and 5 assists while Corey Therriault and Adam Dombrowski added 8 points each for Wentworth.
For Eastern Nazarene, nine different players scored with DeAngelo Alston and Aaron Johnson leading the way with 13 and 11 points respectively. Sophomore John Cramer came off the bench to score a season-high 9 points.
Wentworth will rest a day before hosting Eastern Connecticut on Thursday night at 6pm while Eastern Nazarene will travel to conference opponent Gordon College on Saturday for a 3pm game.
